SHW Nature Rhenish Forestry Axe, 2.65 lb Head, 25.6-inch Ash Handle
SHW Nature Rhenish Forestry Axe, 2.65 lb Head, 25.6-inch Ash Handle
The SHW Nature Rhenish Axe is a versatile two-handed forestry axe for felling smaller trees, removing limbs, chopping wood, and splitting smaller rounds. Its traditional Rhenish head has a broad, flared cutting edge that bites cleanly across the grain, while the weight and profile provide enough splitting action for ordinary firewood work.
At 3.84 pounds overall, this axe is noticeably easier to control and carry than a full-sized splitting axe or maul. The compact 25.6-inch handle also makes it useful when working around branches, brush, and closely spaced trees. It is a practical choice for maintaining a woodlot, processing smaller firewood, or keeping on hand as an all-purpose axe.
The forged steel head retains its natural black forge finish, with a hardened cutting edge rated at 52–55 HRC. It is fitted to a curved, oiled ash handle that provides a comfortable two-handed grip without the slick feel of a heavy varnish. The oil finish can be renewed as the handle ages.
For large, knotty rounds or high-volume firewood splitting, a dedicated splitting axe or maul will be more efficient.
